Dot Shaw Memorial Squat Comp

What a day! - £920.00 raised for Dot's family and there were some increadible moments, first mention has to go to the winner Delroy Mcqueen who squatted an insane 350kg in just knee wraps to take the overall trophy, which he then dedicated & donated to Becky Shaw in memory of Dot, what a touch from a class act of a man.

12 year old female lifter Katlyn Pinkeny yes 12 year old, squatted......wait for it.....140kg, now i have just done my reseach and this squat although (unofficial) would be 27.5kg below the current sub-junior WORLD RECORD - now she has 6 whole years left to break that, and judging by that 140 - it'll not take her that long have we seen the next Dot Shaw? Only time will tell.

Farris Collins - flew in from the Czech Republic especially to pay tribute to Dot, thats what i call respect. 

​

We also had for the very first time the "Butlers" Mother, Father, Daughter & son lifting at the same competition, Mother Ness squatted 80kg after taking time off due to injury recently, Father, Neil squatted a very easy 150kg and is currently in training for the Commonwealth championships in SA this year so we wish him the best of luck there! & Son Ollie Butler, squatted a 10kg PB of 225kg in wraps to take 1st place in the middleweight category, very well done to him! and finally Susie Butler - first comp in 2 years, lifting without any supportive kit and off the back of only 4 weeks training, squatted 75kg very comfortably, i'm personally very proud of her. Great family.

Another Family affair was also going on with the Turners!, man & wife Susan & Alan Turner both squatted incredibly well and even brought along 2 of their own lifters in the shape of the brilliant Heather Cavanan & Stephanie Watson. What made this even more special was that Dorothy actually began to train these lifters not long ago and they have carried her memory & guidance on.

With regards to our own Gateshead lifters their results were as followed:

​

Paul Bennett: 250kg squat at 110kg bodyweight earning him 6th place overall on WILKS

​

Andrew Forbes - squatted a massive 262.5kg at 108kg body weight to place the highest on WILKS from Gateshead and is our new squat king! he also earned a 3rd place overall trophy.

​

Shaun Kelly - 275kg squat at 137 bodyweight (jeeeeesus!) less said the better - but got 4th overall (which he's now used to and cements his place as the Arsenal of world powerlifting) 

​

Stephen Armstrong - 195kg squat which is a comp pb - great stuff mate

​

Dr Eric Spink, squatted a massive PB of 215kg - he has been working very hard to improve on his squat form of late and it has paid off big time. (He also won squat face of the competition with a fantastic impression of a baby rhino emerging into the world for the very first time) 

​

Mark Andrew & Mark Potts - squatted in their first comp and managed 180 & 195kg respectively.

​

Our club secretary Glen Blacklock squatted very well too, posting up a fantastic 175kg squat.

​

Last but not least Najm Ahmed - squatted an unofficial British sub-jr record of 110kg - bright future ahead of him this lad!
